Knicks at Pacers Game 4 picks, odds: What will this suspenseful series have next?
Games 1 through 3 have been unpredictable and thoroughly entertaining. Game 4 goes down in Indianapolis on Tuesday night.
Game 1 was stunning and chaotic to an unprecedented degree. Game 2 gave us another loopy ride with 17 lead changes. Surely, Game 3 would mellow out, even a bit? Nope, more bedlam, and don’t call me Shirley.
The New York Knicks just pulled their third 20-point comeback of this postseason, and now try to tie the series. The Indiana Pacers, hosting and up 2-1, remarkably have two “dub club” recoveries of their own… plus that Aaron Nesmith fever dream in the opener. For reference, no other team in NBA history has more than one 20-point comeback in the same playoffs.
Tuesday night’s Game 4 is high-stakes and ultra-tense. We’re back in Indianapolis, where the golden yellow playoff shirts and rowdy crowd forms something of a conference final corn maze. What else might this series have for us?

Knicks at Pacers Game 4
Pacers lead series 2-1
Series odds: Pacers -210, Knicks +170
New York found itself in a massive hole, on the road, facing a potential 3-0 deficit. Both All-NBA Knicks were engulfed in foul trouble, too. How did the team possibly get over the top?
A quick run at the end of an otherwise-sloppy first half whittled seven points off Indiana’s lead. Miles McBride made tough shots, OG Anunoby clamped down and Josh Hart muscled up on the boards. Then, Karl-Anthony Towns had a fourth quarter for the books.
To win again on Tuesday, the Knicks will likely keep rolling with Mitchell Robinson as a starter. The usual five-man lineup was a net-plus together for the first game this series, but that was with Josh Hart coming off the bench.
New York is going to need a lot more from Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges — both shot 6-for-18 in Game 3. Brunson has been the usual clutch-time bucket, but he went 1-for-6 behind the arc in Game 1 and was 1-for-5 in Game 3.
It will be interesting to see what Tom Thibodeau does with the Game 4 lineup. No head coach in the sport leans on his five starters quite like Thibodeau, but he made a lot of inspired bench moves Sunday — from the Robinson start and the McBride minutes, to Delon Wright (!) and Landry Shamet (!!) seeing the floor.
Indiana will try to keep pushing pace and smashing the gas in transition. It won fast-break scoring 16-2 headlined by the absurd alley-oop from Tyrese Haliburton to Obi Toppin.

Despite a second-half lilt on Sunday, the Pacers have largely looked unbothered on the offensive end. They’re also sure to keep utilizing their balance and depth. Through three games, four Pacers are averaging at least 16 points and six are at double figures. Rick Carlisle has gone with a nine-man rotation in all three contests, and he used 11 players in the narrow Game 2 win.
Siakam leads with an efficient 24.3 points per game, and Indy will need him to be even more assertive going forward. Nesmith touts the team’s best plus-minus mark in the series, but he injured his ankle midway through the Knicks comeback. He returned, but it could affect him Tuesday.
Game 4 is a fascinating hinge point for a fascinating rivalry. With another win, New York can come home to an even more deafening Garden. But if Indiana handles business at home, it will find itself in a commanding position and on the doorstep of the NBA Finals.
Expert picks
On this day (May 27) in NBA Playoffs history
2010 — Lakers 103, Suns 101: Kobe Bryant’s game-winning attempt was tougher and earlier than it had to be. As it turns out, those were the perfect conditions for a Ron Artest career moment. From Howard Beck in the New York Times:
“Bryant had Artest wrapped in a bear hug, which was then engulfed by a group hug, all while shiny purple and gold streamers poured from the sky. Bryant was beaming, jovial at last. To that emotion, he could have added surprised, elated and maybe even relieved.”
