One to usually muse online about the general state of media, the 16-time All-Star called out Fox Sports analysts and hosts Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright by name on his Instagram.
Durant posted a screenshot of a graphic displaying nine prominent sports analysts with the caption prompting users to pick one to be removed. In one post on his story, Durant tagged Cowherd.
“Pack that lame (Colin Cowherd) up,” he wrote.
On the next story, he took his shot at Wright, tagging him as well.
“Basketball would actually move forward if (Nick Wright) wasn’t involved. Hold up.”

Notably omitted from Durant’s callouts, despite being an available option on the graphic, was ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, with whom Durant has had prior public feuds. In 2015, Smith reported on “First Take” that Durant was considering joining the Los Angeles Lakers in the latter’s then-upcoming 2016 free agency.
Durant later refuted Smith’s report after an Oklahoma City Thunder practice, telling reporters, “I don’t talk to Stephen A. Smith at all. Nobody in my family — my friends — they don’t talk to Stephen A. Smith. So, he’s lying.”
He again addressed the rampant rumors involving his upcoming free agency with another shot at Smith.
“If you ask me a question, I’ll talk about them,” Durant told reporters in 2015. “But like I said before, I have people who I talk to about everything, and I know for a fact they didn’t talk to him, so he’s making up stories.”
Smith later fired back at Durant with an on-air rant on “First Take” that included a veiled warning to the 2013-14 NBA MVP.
“You don’t want to make an enemy out of me,” Smith said.
Durant, as it turned out, did not join the Lakers. He instead signed with the Golden State Warriors and became a two-time NBA champion and NBA Finals MVP.
Fast forward to the summer of 2026, and he’s preparing to enter his 20th NBA season, now with the Houston Rockets. He played just one game in the Rockets’ six-game first-round playoff loss to the Lakers last season, because of a bruised right knee and a sprained left ankle.
About a week after the Rockets’ elimination, Cowherd took to his podcast “The Colin Cowherd Podcast” on Volume Sports by likening Durant to a unique big-picture investment.
“KD is like buying a boat,” Cowherd said. “The first day you have it, and the first day you sell it are the two happiest days. It comes in. It’s amazing. You have great times, but there’s maintenance. You’re left disappointed, then you get rid of it and are like, ‘Yeah, that was a lot.’ It was fun a couple times a year.’”
Durant played 78 games in 2025-26, which was the most he’s played since 2018-19 before he tore his Achilles in the 2019 NBA finals at the end of his Warriors tenure. He averaged 26 points per game in 2025-26 for Houston and was named to the All-NBA Second Team, proving that in the modern era he’s still among the game’s elite. He also surpassed Michael Jordan for fifth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
And in 2026, he’s still taking shots at the media.
