Topps has announced several new trading cards with connections to Sunday’s World Cup final.
The first uses one of the images from the now famous 2007 photoshoot in which Lionel Messi bathed Lamine Yamal as a baby years before a remarkable twist of fate would have them face each other in Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina to take the World Cup from the reigning champions.

The Topps card features Messi holding baby Lamine Yamal. It will be an unnumbered short print (meaning it will be more rare than the average base card, but the exact print run won’t be listed on the cards) in the upcoming Topps Stadium Club UEFA Club Competitions set. On Monday, Topps revealed that the card will have a one-of-one parallel that is sure to be one of the most coveted soccer cards produced this year. Topps’ X account also teased the possibility of a version of the card autographed by both Messi and Lamine Yamal being included in the set.
Stadium Club sets are known for their utilization of exceptional photographs and Joan Monfort’s work from 2007, intended for a charity calendar produced by FC Barcelona, UNICEF and newspaper Diario Sport, certainly fits that category.
“We are talking about 2007. Messi was only beginning at Barca then. Destiny plays an important role in these things,” Monfort told The Athletic in 2024 of the shoot.
On Friday, at Fanatics Fest in New York, Messi was questioned about the photos by Tom Brady during a World Cup final event involving both teams’ coaches and captains.
“Honestly, that photo of us is crazy, because — well, that’s life, right? I took a photo with him as a baby, and here we both are, facing off in a World Cup,” the now 39-year-old Messi said.
“Lamine is a huge talent, someone I’ve followed a lot because he plays for a club I love and I always wish him the best, I always want the best for him. And, well, he’s one of the world’s benchmark players at 19 years old, and he has his whole career ahead of him. He has a great opportunity to achieve something historic, which we’ll try our hardest to make sure doesn’t happen this time. I just want to wish him the best.
“It’s crazy. He’s one of the best in the world right now, no doubt about it. And I wish him a lot of luck, because what’s good for him will also be good for Barcelona.”
While fans will have to wait a bit longer for that card to be released, Topps has now made two cards available related to the World Cup final halftime show the company sponsored. Part of the Topps Now collection, which are individual cards that are printed to order and available for a limited time, commemorating key moments and performances across a variety of sports and current events, one card depicts Justin Bieber’s portion of the halftime show and the other represents Coldplay’s part. Each card sells for $11.99 on Topps’ website, with discounts for bulk orders and includes a chance to receive a limited autographed version of the respective card. The cards are only available through Topps until July 23.

The day before the final, Bieber made a surprise appearance at Fanatics Fest, put on by Topps’ parent company, where he competed in Fanatics Games. Bieber beat out a number of top athletes, like defending champion Tom Brady, in a variety of sports challenges at the event to win the $1 million top prize, which he announced he will split between donations to each of the 50 amateur fan competitors and a charitable cause.
