She discussed the prospect of women presidents replacing Donald Trump in the White House. The View has featured political commentary since 1997, and longtime panelist Behar is known for direct remarks on politics and culture.
The View’s Joy Behar doesn’t think there can be female presidents in the US
Joy Behar isn’t sure if America is ready for a woman in the White House. It all began with a poll placing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the front of the Democratic field for 2028.
During Thursday’s episode of The View, the 83-year-old said that she didn’t see any female candidate, even Ocasio-Cortez, breaking through. She then turned to the panel and asked them to name one woman who could. Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump aide, predicted that Marco Rubio would defeat AOC in a general election.
Behar pushed the discussion further. She argued that Donald Trump’s victories against Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris prove that voters still aren’t ready for a woman president. That comment led Sara Haines to push back. The panel then debated if gender still decides who can win the White House.
After Haines argued that gender played no role in whether a woman could win, Behar responded, “Think of a woman that could win. Tell me one woman.” While the veteran host expressed support for Ocasio-Cortez, she argued that Trump’s victories came against women. She added that he was defeated when running against a male candidate, Joe Biden.
However, Sara Haines stood her ground, arguing that voters choose based on character and integrity. According to her, policy matters less since most people already agree on the issues. The journalist also said that primaries tend to favor extreme candidates because of how the system works, but those candidates usually can’t win general elections.
However, Joy Behar stuck to her point, saying that she thinks America would elect a gay man president before it elects a woman.
