Amazon’s long-awaited Warhammer 40,000 adaptation has received one of its biggest updates in months. As development on the franchise continues, filmmaker Mike Flanagan has officially joined the project alongside Henry Cavill, expanding the creative team behind the adaptation. The latest update hints at the continued progress on the tabletop universe.

Amazon’s Warhammer 40,000 adaptation has received its biggest development in months. The update, revealed through Games Workshop’s latest financial report, confirms that the long-awaited adaptation is continuing to move forward.
According to the financial report, filmmaker Mike Flanagan has joined the creative team and has already completed preliminary story outlines, with the project now expected to move into script development. Kevin Rountree, Chief Executive of Games Workshop, also confirmed that Henry Cavill and Vertigo “remain involved as they have been for some time.”
Games Workshop has not revealed which part of the Warhammer 40,000 universe Flanagan is developing. It remains unclear whether his work is intended for a feature film or a television series. The studio has also not confirmed whether it will be the project in which Cavill eventually stars. Those details are expected to remain confidential while development continues.
Flanagan is best known for directing The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Doctor Sleep, making his appointment a notable addition to a franchise. Cavill first announced the partnership with Amazon and Games Workshop more than three years ago.
At the time, he wrote, “Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret.”
