Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters, which means Sadie Sink’s secret is finally out — and Marvel fans know which character she’s playing at long last. SPOILERS ahead for Spider-Man: Brand New Day! The MCU’s newest Spider-Man sequel has only been out for a week now, and it’s already become the highest-grossing film of 2026. Fans are eager to get to theaters and see it, as it answers some of the most pressing questions surrounding Tom Holland’s webslinger. That includes what he’s been up to since No Way Home and how he’s faring now that everyone he loves doesn’t remember him.
In addition to continuing those threads, Spider-Man: Brand New Day answers another major question surrounding the film: who Sadie Sink is playing. The Stranger Things star’s casting was kept tightly under wraps leading up to the 2026 sequel. The film confirms she’s the MCU’s Jean Grey, however, setting her up as the seeming villain…then turning the tables on that when Peter realizes Damage Control is the true enemy.
Now that Sink can finally talk about her role without dodging questions, she recounted her casting to Variety. Although some MCU stars are eager to play their characters even before being offered their roles, Sink admitted she didn’t know much about Jean or the X-Men prior to the movie. “People had started rumors about me playing that character — for like years, it had kind of been circulating online — so that was all I knew about her,” she said. “But I had never seen X-Men, so I was just like unfamiliar.” Sink added:
“Then Kevin [Feige] and Louis [D’Esposito] from Marvel called me, set up a meeting, and just told me about the character, about her role in Spider-Man. Then I did more research on her, and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, this is a no-brainer!’ She’s such an iconic figure in X-Men and in comics, and I’m very excited to bring my iteration of her to life.”

Sadie Sink Is the Perfect Choice for the MCU’s Iteration of Jean Grey
There’s a reason that MCU fans were whispering about Sink playing Jean Grey for years, and it’s because she really is such a great pick for the role. Not only does the Stranger Things alum look the part, but she brings the character to life with an edge and charm that makes her all the more intriguing — and sets up the character’s comic journey and the concept of the X-Men perfectly. We know from Stranger Things that Sink can act, too, whether she’s sharing a sweeter moment with Lucas and El or letting her fiery side out. It’s exciting that she’ll bring her talents to the MCU. The upcoming X-Men movie can’t get here any sooner.
