The TV adaptation of Payday has officially gained major Hollywood star power behind the scenes. Vice Studios and game developer Starbreeze Entertainment announced plans to develop a live-action project based on the franchise in March 2026. However, the series still has several major pieces to put in place before production can move forward.
According to Variety, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has joined the series as an executive producer under his G-Unit Film & Television banner. Jackson will produce the series alongside Vide Studios and Payday developer Starbreeze Entertainment. While the news comes as exciting for both the franchise fans and audience, the project remains in the very early stages of development.
The biggest drawback right now is that the series currently has no writer and no network or streaming service attached. That means the project still has a lot of shoes to fill in before production actually begins.
Why 50 Cent and G-Unit Film & Television are a natural fit for the Payday TV adaptation
Even though the project lacks key creative attachments, bringing 50 Cent on board makes sense. The 51-year-old rapper has plenty of experience producing high-stakes crime-action dramas on television. He’s best known for executive producing the Power franchise at Starz and starring in the original series. The hit TV series then expanded into multiple spinoffs.
Apart from Power, G-Unit Film & Television has also produced BMF, another crime drama for Starz. The company also has several upcoming projects in its slate, including Fightland and Power: Origins.
Given such enormous work experience, Jackson and his production company are a strong fit for Payday. The actor believes the Payday TV series can take the world even further than the video game franchise is known for. He said G-Unit’s experience with cinematic crime stories gives the team a chance to build a “high-energy franchisethat pushes the heist genre forward.”
For now, 50 Cent’s addition gives the Payday TV adaptation a major boost. However, the series remains in its early stages, so fans may have a long wait before it becomes a reality.
