Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. made one thing clear about Stephen Curry’s future: the franchise does not expect its superstar to ask for a trade, but if that day ever came, Curry’s history with the organization would ensure that his wishes were taken seriously.
Speaking with reporters, Dunleavy said a hypothetical trade request from Curry would not be dismissed outright. Instead, he would discuss the situation with Warriors ownership because Curry has earned that level of consideration after spending his entire NBA career with the franchise.

Dunleavy’s message, however, was not that Golden State is preparing to trade Curry. Quite the opposite. He reiterated that Curry has given the organization no indication that he wants to leave and that both sides remain aligned on the goal of having him finish his career with the Warriors.
Curry has spent all 17 of his NBA seasons with Golden State, transforming the franchise from a long-struggling organization into a modern dynasty. He has won four championships with the Warriors, two league MVP awards and became the defining player of an era built around three-point shooting, movement and spacing.
Curry is not being treated like an ordinary star under contract. If he ever reached the point where he wanted a different situation, Golden State appears prepared to at least hear him out rather than simply refuse on principle.
The two-time MVP is entering the final year of his current contract at approximately $62.5 million and will become eligible later this month for another extension. Dunleavy said the organization remains optimistic about continuing the partnership, while Curry has repeatedly spoken about his desire to retire as a Warrior.
