Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye, as per Spanish outlet AS.
The Red Devils currently have Matheus Cunha, Marcus Rashford, Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo as options to deploy on the flanks.
However, Michael Carrick has preferred to deploy Mbeumo centrally, while Rashford’s future is still uncertain after returning from a season-long loan spell with Barcelona.
Now, AS report that Man Utd have identified Mbaye as a serious option to strengthen the frontline and have held talks with PSG to learn about the details of signing him.
Although the 18-year-old’s existing deal is set to run until 2028, PSG might be open to cashing-in on him as they already have Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, and Maghnes Akliouche as attacking options.
Moreover, Ferran Torres is likely to join from Barcelona over the coming days. However, Les Parisiens won’t allow Mbaye to leave cheaply and want more than £43m.
The report state that purchasing Mbaye won’t be straightforward for Man Utd, as Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Porto, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Roma, and Aston Villa are also in this race, and they have enquired about this deal as well.
Battle
Mbaye is a right-footed versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and works hard without possession.
Although Mbaye hasn’t been able to break into Luis Enrique’s starting line-up, he has secured his place in the Senegal national team.
Following Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s serious injury, Liverpool have prioritised revamping the frontline this summer. They have already purchased Victor Muñoz from Osasuna, but Andoni Iraola wants more attackers.
So, the Reds have been linked with a few names, with Mbaye being one of them. The youngster is a talented forward and possesses the potential to reach the top.
Therefore, he would be a great coup for Man Utd or Liverpool should either club purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club or the Merseyside club eventually manage to secure his services before the end of this transfer window.
