Costco in Japan is probably the last place you’d expect to find a Porsche 911 sitting among the giant packs of toilet paper and bulk groceries.
But the bulk-buying store taken the world’s favorite warehouse shopping trip to a whole new level by bringing Porsche into its stores.
The retailer has an official car-purchase support program that includes Porsche, and it has even been displaying actual 911s inside its warehouse stores.
Suddenly, picking up a six-figure sports car while doing your weekly shop doesn’t sound quite so ridiculous.
Costco in Japan is putting Porsche 911 cars next to everyday shopping
The sight of a Porsche 911 supercar inside a Costco warehouse is pretty surreal, especially when you remember what you normally go there for.
Instead of walking past rows of groceries and electronics, shoppers at Costco Kadoma in Osaka recently found a Porsche 911 sitting inside the warehouse as part of a special vehicle display, but that’s not the wildest Costco perk.
Costco Japan’s official Porsche program shows that the display ran from July 13 to July 26, 2026, in partnership with Porsche Center Kita Osaka, with a 911 listed as the featured vehicle.
A visitor to the event identified the car as a 911 Carrera GTS, complete with 485 hp and a 3,591cc engine.
That’s a pretty serious upgrade from finding a new toaster on your shopping list.
And this isn’t just a one-off marketing stunt because the company has been working with Porsche dealerships on special vehicle displays for years, including a Porsche exhibition at its Makuhari warehouse in 2019.
The latest program makes the whole thing even more interesting because members can actually use the retailer’s automotive purchasing service to connect with participating Porsche dealerships.
Popping out to get new diapers, milk and a supercar
Costco’s Japanese website has a dedicated ‘Costco Members-Only Car Purchase Support Program’, and Porsche is officially included.
There is, unsurprisingly, no Porsche sitting in a giant Costco aisle with a barcode that you can scan alongside your eggs and laundry detergent.
Instead, the program connects Costco members with participating Porsche Centers, where the actual vehicle purchase takes place.
As of 2026, the participating dealerships listed by the program include Porsche Center Shiga, Porsche Center Naka-Osaka and Porsche Center Kita Osaka.
There can also be a Costco benefit attached to the purchase.
Members who register through the program and subsequently buy an eligible Porsche can receive a Shop Card, giving the world’s most unlikely car dealership a surprisingly practical connection to the warehouse club.
And Costco isn’t finished putting expensive German cars in its stores.
The official program lists another vehicle display at Costco Higashi-Omigawa from September 14 to September 27, 2026. That event will feature the electric Porsche Macan rather than a 911.
So while you can’t quite grab a Porsche 911 from the same aisle as the rotisserie chickens, Japan has come remarkably close.
For car fans, it might just be the greatest possible excuse to take a very slow walk around the warehouse on your next shopping trip.
