A television news anchor who was fired from her network in 2025 is back in the news after a video emerged in which she appears to call her boss a “b****.”
Taryn Asher was working for WJBK-TV Fox 2 Detroit at the time of the incident. She was fired last November.
Following her firing, she sued the company alleging that she was being discriminated against based on her gender and that she was fired in retaliation.
Fox insists that her firing was the result of “unprofessional workplace behavior” and “outbursts,” according to the New York Post.
A video intended to support Fox’s claim has surfaced — first to FTVLive and Deadline Detroit — that shows the anchor having a dispute with over a PSA script.

In the video, Asher is speaking to someone off-camera and explaining her frustration with the current workflow of their script-review process. The off-screen individual begins talking but is cut-off by Asher, who explains why she’s made changes to the script.
“See, I mean, I can’t wait for you to go through them all and then I go through them, because then I’m already getting ready by then,” she says to the individual off camera, presumed to be her boss.
The back-and-forth intensifies, and at some point the off-screen individual begins to leave. Asher calls her out on allegedly storming away from their discussion.
“I don’t think you are. You’re walking out really angry,” she says. “B****.”
She is left standing in the tense moment, after which she continues to express her frustration with her colleagues.
“What the f***. Grow up,” she says at one point, before expressing to another crew member that she is “so done with her antics, telling on me every five seconds. I’m done.”
Fox maintains that it fired Asher because of her conduct and not because she is a woman or because she complained about facing discrimination at the network.
Asher claims in her lawsuit that her station was firing more women and replacing them with men. She also claimed that she was given fewer opportunities to interview guests than her co-anchor, Roop Raj.
The network said that Asher mistakenly believed in October that Raj had been assigned an interview that she had booked for herself. It claims that it had always been Asher’s, and that Asher yelled at newsroom crew over the mix-up.
Then, in early November, the network claims it initially — and unintentionally — assigned Raj both guest interviews for its 5pm and 6pm shows. It insisted that the producers on each show made those decisions independently and did not coordinate the interviews.
Fox said one of the interviews was then reassigned to Asher.
The network claims that, following the incident, Asher told Raj that he doesn’t “own politics,” and that she was put on leave the following day.
Fox acknowledged that tensions were getting worse between Asher and Raj. He reportedly went to his human resources department to report that Asher was “jealous” of him.
Asher has denied Fox’s claims that she engaged in “outbursts” or other unprofessional conduct. She believes the network fired her in retaliation for her discrimination report.
The lawsuit also claims that the network treats male employees accused of misconduct more leniently than it did her. Fox disputed those allegations as well.
The Independent has requested comment from the network and from Asher.
