Rising Democratic star Senator Jon Ossoff has stepped up his feud with Donald Trump, after taunting the president over one of his aides.
Ossoff made scathing remarks about the commander-in-chief during a rally in Atlanta Sunday, including a reference to traveling with his 35-year-old assistant Natalie Harp.
Speaking to MSNOW’s The Briefing with Jen Psaki, the Georgia Democrat was asked why he made the Harp comments.
“Well, I’ve heard this particular aide referred to as a ‘security blanket,’ and I think we could say that about any number of the senior aides in the White House,” Ossoff said Monday.
“They’re not telling him what he needs to hear, they’re telling him what he wants to hear,” Ossoff continued. “The nation is at war and we can’t afford that.
“We need a team in the White House, we need folks at the State Department, at the Defense Department, in the United States Congress who take their jobs seriously.”
As with his speech Sunday, Ossoff highlighted ongoing complaints about conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is on extended deployment supporting U.S. operations in the war with Iran.
Families of sailors have claimed morale is low with some crew even jumping overboard. The Trump administration and the defense secretary Pete Hegseth, however, have sought to downplay the complaints.
“Those sailors out on the Lincoln do their jobs with excellence and dedication every single day,” Ossoff continued.
“They didn’t sign up for luxury. They signed up to defend the country, and the president surrounded by enablers in the West Wing is playing golf, is trading stock and is decorating his ballroom.
“It’s a disgrace. All while American families in Georgia and across the country pay more for just about everything as a direct result of his failed economic policy and his failed foreign policy.”
Ossoff, who has been tipped as a potential contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, spoke to Psaki the day after his attack on Trump in Atlanta.
During that speech the Democrat claimed Trump would “rather travel with Natalie on the flying palace” than do the job of president.
The White House and Trump hit back at Ossoff’s jabs Monday.
“Jon should look deep into his soul and ask himself why he’s a miserable person who hates this country,” White House communications director Steven Cheung posted on social media. “It’s because he’s a radical, extremist Dumocrat.”
Asked about the “Natalie” remark in the Oval Office, Trump repeated a comparison he often makes between the Democratic senator and a comedy actor.
“You mean Pee-wee Herman?” Trump said.
