Jerry Bruckheimer has addressed the possibility of bringing Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt together for a racing movie. The producer said he would love to see the two stars share the screen in a film.
Bruckheimer discussed the possibility while speaking with Entertainment Tonight at D23. He said, “I would love that. I would love that. It would be great to put those two amazing actors together.”
The idea would connect Cruise’s Days of Thunder with Pitt’s F1: The Movie. Bruckheimer produced both racing projects, making him a natural link between the two films.
Tom Cruise’s Days of Thunder sequel is currently in pre-production
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount moved forward with the Days of Thunder sequel in July, and the project is currently in pre-production. Tom Cruise will return as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and produce the movie alongside Bruckheimer. Will Staples wrote the screenplay, while Jonathan Levine is in talks to direct.
As the project moves through development, the screenplay has become a key focus. Bruckheimer told Entertainment Tonight, “We’re working on the screenplay right now, which is always the most important thing.” He added that the team will “work really hard to get it right” before moving forward.
No other cast members have been confirmed for the sequel. Plot details also remain under wraps, so it is unclear how the new film will continue Cole Trickle’s story.
Pitt starred as Formula 1 driver Sonny Hayes in F1: The Movie. Joseph Kosinski directed the 2025 racing drama, which Bruckheimer also produced. The film was a major box-office success, grossing nearly $634 million worldwide
A crossover between the two characters has been discussed previously. Kosinski previously suggested a story that could establish a connection between Cole Trickle and Sonny Hayes. However, Bruckheimer’s latest comments do not confirm that such a crossover is currently being developed.
Days of Thunder 2 is targeting a 2027 or 2028 release, although no date has been confirmed. Cruise’s return keeps the NASCAR sequel moving forward, although production remains in its early stages.
