A Tesla Cybertruck EV owner from Idaho has shared some pointers on how to safely unwrap the electric pickup truck.
YouTuber Sammy Cdub wanted to investigate the claim that you should not wrap and then unwrap the Cybertruck.
Many have had fears about the chrome exterior of the truck and whether removing a wrap would leave sticky residue all over it.
This video answered all those questions, and as it turns out, unwrapping the Tesla Cybertruck requires a bit of knowledge.
Why do people wrap their cars?
Wrapping a car is a way to add some personality to your car or vehicle, without actually changing the paint on it.
A wrap allows you to give the car a new color, with the added bonus that you can unwrap it at a later date.
It also allows you to change the looks of a car without paying a fortune for a repaint.
Wraps can also protect the original paintwork hidden below them.
Sammy Cdub though wanted to see if the polished chrome exterior of the Cybertruck would be its undoing.
There have been stories of people unwrapping the EV, only for it to leave sticky residue all over it.
That residue is then impossible to remove, causing a nightmare for owners.
Did removing the Tesla Cybertruck wrap cause problems?
In the video, we see Sammy and the team from CW Wraps & Upfitters removing the wrap from the Tesla.
“It’s pretty obvious we don’t have residue,” said Sammy, as after the first section was removed, the truck looked absolutely fine.
Sammy did question how others had suffered such extensive damage when removing the wrap.
He pointed out that the amount of heat people are applying to the truck to remove the wrap can have an impact.
For the second part, he intentionally applied too much heat and this time there was some residue left behind when it was removed.
But as the rest of the wrap was removed, very little vinyl was left on the Tesla Cybertruck.
Sammy speculated that it could also have been a poor-quality wrap that did the damage to some owner’s EVs.
“Whatever it is that you did, that’s how you ended up with residue,” he said.
