When this Tesla Cybertruck took on a Ram 2500 Cummins truck in a towing challenge, it became a true Clash of the Titans moment.
The challenge was simple in theory – which truck was better equipped to tow a 8,000Ib 28ft trailer?
But in practice, it was a whole other matter.
In what was guaranteed to be a clear case of diesel versus electric, there could only be one winner.
We’ve seen plenty of vehicles take on the Tesla Cybertruck
In the view of many, the Tesla Cybertruck is the top dog of trucks.
But it is divisive, so it’s no wonder that many people want the chance to take it on in a challenge.
We’ve seen the Cybertruck go up against various trucks in internet challenges, having faced off against a Humvee, aFord F-150, anda Rivian R1T Tri.
But how would things pan out when it went up against a Ram 2500 Cummins truck in a towing challenge?
With a big strong truck like the Cybertruck, you expect it to be an ace when it comes to hauling heavy weights.
Not that the Ram 2500 Cummins is a slouch by comparison.
It was bound to be a close run thing – so which truck would reign supreme?
This is what happened when a Tesla Cybertruck took on a Ram 2500 Cummins in a towing challenge
Andre Smirnov, the host of YouTube channel The Fast Lane Truck, would be the one carrying out the test.
He wanted to see which truck would do a better job of hauling a 8,000Ib trailer along Interstate 25, which runs through New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming.
On paper, the Cybertruck had plenty going for it that might make it the favored truck, including air suspension, four-wheel driving, and trailer brake controls.
But with a max towing capacity of 20,000Ibs, the Ram 2500 Cummins had plenty to show it for itself.
It was all to play for.
Unfortunately, it would be the Cybertruck that would flounder out on the road.
After towing for just 43 miles, its battery was way down at around half, with 85 miles covered in total by the end.
By way of comparison, the diesel Ram demonstrated more range, in addition to its exemplary towing capabilities.
From this experiment, it became evident that long-distance towing can brought up some issues for the Cybertruck.
“It’s all about the right tool for the right job,” Roman Mica, a fellow presenter on the channel, noted.
