Jon Jones will never let a Daniel Cormier comment about him go unanswered.
The former UFC two-division champion’s social media ears perked up Tuesday after a clip of his longtime rival Cormier surfaced in which Jones caught a stray when Cormier was touting the greatness of Khabib Nurmagomedov. To illustrate how incredible it is that Nurmagomedov went 29-0 in his legendary fighting career, Cormier pointed out Jones’ lone loss, which came against Matt Hamill when Jones was disqualified for throwing illegal 12-6 downward elbows on a grounded Hamill.

“Think about this,” Cormier said. “Jon Jones, for as good as he is, he has one loss. Why? He made a mistake. Khabib never made a mistake. … Never got himself disqualified, never got caught in a submission, he made no mistakes. Twenty-nine times to walk to that octagon against the best guys in the world and win twenty-nine times?
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Jones popped up in the comments section with a retort.
“I started in the UFC so early that I didn’t even know what the rules were,” Jones said. “The night I fought Matt was the first night I had ever even heard the term ‘12-to-6.’ Literally, my entire career has been in the main event, fighting for a world title.
“My brother, Daniel Cormier, your jealousy runs so deep through your blood. I honestly pray that the good Lord heals you from your envy and that, one day, you won’t feel the need to do interviews like this. Until then, it’s flattering to see the passion you have when it comes to me.”
Jones and Cormier have a long history, having fought twice in UFC title fights with Jones having his hand raised on both occasions. They first fought at UFC 182, where Jones won a unanimous decision to defend the light heavyweight championship, then again at UFC 214 where Jones knocked Cormier out with a head kick. However, Jones’ second win over Cormier was later overturned to a no-contest due to Jones testing positive for banned substances in the aftermath of the fight.
Even in retirement, the two have continued to feud, repeatedly taking public shots at each other in interviews and in social media, with Cormier recently saying that alleged truce between the fighters that was supposedly formed during their time filming a show for ALF Global was a complete fabrication on Jones’ part.
Cormier’s latest Jones slight was more about praising his longtime training partner and friend Nurmagomedov than it was about targeting Jones, and several other all-time greats were also brought up for comparison.
“I don’t even really know why more people don’t share this opinion, because Georges St-Pierre has two or three losses,” Cormier said. “Demetrious Johnson, one of the greatest, has losses. This guy never lost. [Henry] Cejudo, everybody lost. … Even Islam [Makhachev], as good as he is, made one mistake, and he’s as close to Khabib as anyone. To never lose, it’s crazy, especially in the beginning of his UFC career when he didn’t have great striking. He was really relying on his wrestling and he never lost. I think it’s crazy.”
