The Esports Foundation, which hosts and runs the Esports Nations Cup, announced yesterday that its inaugural 2026 competition has been postponed to 2027.
The news hit the X timeline like a bomb, with some questioning if qualifying for ENC 2026 would be null and void.
What was perhaps the most emotive response came from Brazilian CS player Adriano “WOOD7” Cerato, who qualified for the Esports Nations Cup with his team, and detailed the gut punch that the news brought:

USA Esports President & CEO Jesse Bodony took to his X account to share what he’d said with Team USA. In his message to the American contingent, he said, “Won’t sugarcoat it, it’s disappointing.” Looking towrads the future Bodony stated, “I’ll be meeting with our leadership team and board over the coming days and weeks to work through what this means for our fall plans.”
The USA Esports President and CEO concluded his message by saying that the federation will “care of our people and pivot as needed”. It’s not immediately clear how teams and players who qualified for ENC 2026 will be affected.
Mind Body Esports founder Edward Cleland commented on ENC’s postponement, “Esports and suffering remain inseparable,” and, “We are the first generation through the wall, heartache is part of the deal.”
Players may not share the same sentiment, as qualifying for the tournament can feel like climbing a mountain only to reach the bottom and be told to start again.
