Netflix announced its new mystery thriller Heartland on X on August 26. The film stars Jessica Chastain, Garrett Hedlund, Carter Faith, Ross Lynch, Paul Sparks, Jennifer Nettles, and John Hawkes. It premieres on the streaming platform on November 13, 2026.
Chastain plays retired country music legend Misty Jones in the film. Specifically, her niece, a rising country music star, goes missing under mysterious circumstances. Misty then comes out of hiding to investigate Nashville’s dark underbelly.
Meanwhile, director Shana Feste helms the project after directing Country Strong. That earlier film earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Song. Notably, Chastain joined the Heartland project last fall.
Additionally, Netflix released eight first-look images from the film. One image shows Chastain walking through woods while carrying a gun. Another depicts her performing alongside Nettles’ character, Winnie Jo Lean, while wearing all black and a cowboy hat.
Furthermore, the cast features several performers with country music backgrounds. Nettles, one half of the duo Sugarland, has acted in projects like Harriet and The Righteous Gemstones. Similarly, Carter Faith, who plays Misty’s niece, marks her acting debut with Heartland. Faith released her first full-length album, Cherry Valley, last October. That record earned her an Academy of Country Music Award nomination for Album of the Year.
Beyond the cast, Chastain brings significant credentials to the role as an Oscar winner. Her previous film work includes Zero Dark Thirty, The Martian, Interstellar, and Molly’s Game. On television, she starred in Scenes from a Marriage and George & Tammy. A trailer for Heartland will likely arrive in the coming weeks.
