Manchester City are interested in a move for Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, with the Merseyside club keen on a deal that would see Jack Grealish head in the opposite direction.
Grealish, 30, spent last season on loan at David Moyes’ side and his contract at the Etihad expires next summer. The Athletic has previously reported that Everton were keen on extending Grealish’s stay, after his season was curtailed by injury in January.
Ndiaye, meanwhile, declined multiple contract offers last season with three years left on his current terms, and Everton have been expecting interest in the 26-year-old from Champions League teams. Club sources maintain that Ndiaye has behaved professionally throughout the summer.
City have undergone a summer of change, particularly with regards to their attack, with winger Savio leaving for Tottenham Hotspur on a deal worth up to £85million, and fellow forward Omar Marmoush having agreed a loan deal to follow him to north London.
The Athletic reported on Thursday that Enzo Maresca’s side had received an offer from Sunderland to sign Grealish on loan, in a proposal which would see City cover part of his salary and include an option to make the move permanent next summer.

Grealish made 22 appearances for Everton on loan last season, recording two goals and six assists before sustaining a stress fracture in his foot in January. On his return to Manchester, Grealish has come on as a second-half substitute in each of their first two games this campaign — the 3-0 loss against Arsenal in the Community Shield and Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth.
Ndiaye was a key player for Everton in the 2025-26 campaign, scoring six goals and providing three assists over 34 appearances. The Senegal international has started each of Everton’s first two matches of this season.
Would this be a good move for City?

This one could well hinge on Grealish going back to Everton, as that is a very good bargaining chip from City’s point of view. The complicating factor is that he does have interest from other clubs.
Ndiaye himself would represent a very solid signing for City, albeit maybe not one with as high a ceiling as the club would normally like to bring in. He is Premier League- proven and, at 26 years old, would hopefully be ready to contribute straight away, which will be especially important given the amount of churn in the squad this summer.
He has stood out as a very creative, confident player at Everton and his defensive efforts have also been noticeable — a little like Palmeiras’ Allan Elias, who is set to sign before next week’s deadline.
With Savio and Marmoush leaving, City do need attacking reinforcements and they appear to be getting that business done, although after selling so many players who had only joined the club in the last two years, the pressure is on to get things right.
