Usman Nurmagomedov has turned down a recent big offer from the PFL to renew his contract.
This past July, Usman Nurmagomedov fought in the final fight of his PFL deal when he knocked out Archie Colgan in the first round of their PFL New York clash.
Immediately after the fight, rumors swirled regarding the undefeated Russian’s future, with fans calling for him to finally join the UFC.
And that is something Dana White is clearly interested in as he hinted that the lightweight star could be UFC-bound.
Nurmagomedov turned down $2 million PFL offer
His longtime teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov hailed him as the ‘best outside of the UFC’ following his recent fight, with the widespread consensus that Nurmagomedov is the best lightweight on the planet currently.
And that is why the PFL, soon to be MVP MMA, likely want to keep hold of him, as he would be one of the biggest names in the promotion.
Despite that, ahead of his recent fight, Nurmagomedov’s manager revealed that the PFL had the chance to tie him down to a new deal, but they turned down that opportunity when they saw the figure he was looking for.
Now, though, the 28-year-old has provided fans with an update regarding his future, as he is still in the PFL’s 90 day exclusive negotiation period.
“Negotiations with the PFL are still ongoing. 90 days have to pass. After that, we’ll see,” he told Sport24.
He went on to reveal that he has already turned down a big offer from the promotion worth $2 million.
“But I have (previously) turned down $2 million. When we made our request for a new contract, the numbers were different. Higher than $2 million,” he continued.
At this point, all signs are pointing towards him signing with the UFC and his manager has already declared who he would target in debut negotiations for his debut outing.
The UFC, though, still have to wait 63 days before they can begin negotiations with Nurmagomedov and his team, and only then will the 28-year-old’s future become clear.
