A prominent Colombian mixed martial artist has found herself in hot water.
Former Bellator title challenger Alejandra Lara won’t be seen inside the cage again until 2027.
The Colombian is a 22-fight MMA veteran and competed nine times under the banner of the now-defunct Bellator brand. She has also fought in organizations like Invicta FC and Combate Global.
Most recently, Lara entered the cage at Tuff-N-Uff 153, and a defeat in her women’s bantamweight title fight was not the only setback for the 32-year-old.

Former Bellator star Alejandra Lara suspended for nine months after testing positive for cocaine metabolites
Lara went 3-6 in Bellator but did compete for a championship. In just her second fight for the organization eight years ago, the Medellin native was submitted by Ilima-Lei Macfarlane in their bout for the Bellator women’s flyweight title.
She was challenging for MMA gold again in 2026, this time in the bantamweight division against Jaeleen Robledo at Tuff-N-Uff 153.
After again losing via submission, Lara was dealt a further blow when she failed a drug test following the defeat.
As reported by MMA Fighting, Lara has been suspended for nine months and fined by the Nevada Athletic Commission after testing positive for the primary metabolite of cocaine, benzoylecgonine.
Lara has been protesting the verdict on social media. Providing the context behind her drug test failure, ‘Azul’ claims to have consumed a coca leaf that was given to her by “indigenous elders” as part of South American culture.
“I had been appealing the suspension because consuming coca leaf is a cultural practice in South America, and it’s something I’ve done for many years,” Lara wrote on X.
“Mambe originates from the Amazon rainforest, and it is sent to me by Indigenous elders from the region. Context is important,” she added.

If the suspension stands, Lara will be eligible to compete again from January 24, 2027. She was also fined $412.50 for the indiscretion.
