September means that school is starting, leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and the streaming is heating up. Yes, it’s time for the Nerd’s Watch,the place to find out all the best genre titles coming to Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, and more. Plus, we do the work for you. This isn’t a simple copy-paste of everything coming to every service. It’s something more.
What follows is a list of the best stuff on all the big streaming services. We look at all those long, annoying lists and whittle them down to a few dozen titles that we think arenoteworthy this month. Some are new,some are old, but either way, we’ll tell you why you should care. Or at least joke about it.
17 Again (September 1 on Netflix)
A simple fact of life in 2026 is that the world is sorely lacking in body swap comedies. 17 Again isn’t exactly that, but it’s in the ballpark, as a middle-aged man (Matthew Perry) is transported back to his teenage body (Zac Efron) to fix issues with his family. It’s a delight.
About Time (September 1 on Netflix)
Speaking of delight, this time-travel romance stars Domhnall Gleeson as a man whose family can travel through time, and he does so to fall in love with Rachel McAdams. As you would.
Alien and Aliens (September 1 on Netflix)
When you think of the all-time one-two punches of franchise starters, it’s hard to top Ridley Scott’s masterpiece Alien and James Cameron’s perfect sequel, Aliens. Two films you can now bang out back-to-back on Netflix.
The Jaws Saga (September 1 on Netflix)
There are few better ways to mark the end of summer than travelling back to the beach with a rewatch of Jaws. And, if you want to go a step further, Netflix is also adding its three sequels: Jaws 2, Jaws 3, and Jaws: The Revenge.
Carrie (1976 and 2013) (September 1 on Prime Video)
The Stephen King adaptation Carrie is all over streaming this month, which makes sense, as Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Carrie series hits Prime Video on October 7. Prime is also getting both the 1976 original and 2013 remake, while the 1976 film debuts on HBO Max as well.
Teen Wolf (September 1 on Prime Video)
Which Teen Wolf? The cheesy Michael J. Fox 1980s film or the more brooding version from this century? Well, wouldn’t you know—it’s both. The 1985 original film and the 2023 sequel movie to the 2011 TV series hit Prime Video on September 1.
The Silence of the Lambs (September 1 on Prime Video)
Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins star in maybe the best serial killer movie ever made? It certainly has the Oscars to back that up. Plus, its sequel, Hannibal, is also coming to the streamer.
The Thing (1982) (September 1 on Prime Video and Peacock)
With spooky season just around the corner, two streamers are giving you a chance to start a never-ending loop of screenings of John Carpenter’s iconic horror adaptation, The Thing.
Coraline (September 1 on Hulu)
The film that put Laika on the map and still brings in a few million every year in theatrical re-releases is coming to Hulu. You’ll never forget this incredible film about a young girl who discovers a terrifying alternate universe.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (September 2 on Disney+)
Remember a few months ago when the first Star Wars movie in seven years hit theaters? If not, well, it’s finally making its streaming debut this month. It’s also debuting alongside a new Lego special, Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
Magnolia (September 1 on HBO Max)
Recent Oscar winner Paul Thomas Anderson followed up his 1997 masterpiece Boogie Nights with this 1999 epic telling multiple stories across the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, CA. And no, most of it is not genre. But then, all of a sudden, when it rains, it pours.
Backrooms (September 25 on HBO Max)
This creepy, atmospheric horror film from director Kane Parsons was one of the biggest surprise hits of the year. Everyone was talking about it. And that conversation will get even bigger now with its debut on streaming.
Edge of Tomorrow (September 1 on Paramount+)
If you’re a regular reader of this column and feel an intense sense of déjà vu seeing the Tom Cruise time loop action film on this list, don’t worry. I put it on every single time no matter what. It’s not you, it’s me.
The Monster Squad (September 1 on Paramount+)
A group of kids teams up to battle a monster super team of Dracula, Wolf Man, Creature, and the Mummy. The Monster Squad is pure 1980s in every way and one of my favorite films ever.
Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (September 1 on Paramount +)
I have no idea what, exactly, this documentary is but that title says it all. We’re in.
Scary Movie (2026) (September 3 on Paramount+)
If you missed the most recent Scary Movie in theaters this summer, it’s coming to streaming this month. There’s even an extended cut.
Get Out (September 1 on Peacock)
Jordan Peele hasn’t made a film since 2022, and this 2017 film might be why. Peele set such a high bar with Get Out that his films became events with way more added pressure and expectations. And so, as we patiently wait for the next one, we can now revisit the one that started it all.
Ghost Rider (September 1 on Peacock)
With Ryan Gosling soon taking on the flaming skull and motorcycle of Johnny Blaze, now might be a fun time to look back at the time Nicolas Cage played the role. A film successful enough that it had a sequel.
Halloween Trilogy (September 1 on Peacock)
It’s not quite Halloween yet, but it is Michael Myers time. The first three Halloween films are all coming to Peacock (even if Halloween III: Season of the Witchis Myers-less) along with one of the modern sequels, Halloween Kills. Halloween II and Halloween III: Season of the Witch are also coming to Prime Video.
It Follows (September 1 on Peacock)
Director David Robert Mitchell has a new film, The End of Oak Street, currently in theaters. He’s following it up with a sequel to this terrifying 2014 film about a killer entity that follows people until they are dead. We’re ready for a rewatch.
Tremors Trilogy (September 1 on Peacock)
Did you know that there are seven Tremors movies? It’s true. There was also a TV show. It’s a pretty prolific horror franchise, and this month, you can catch the iconic original film and its first two sequels on Peacock.
The Cornetto Trilogy (September 1 on Peacock)
The films that put Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost on the map are all coming to Peacock. That’s Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. They’re all hilarious, awesome, and we love them. Plus, if you want some more Pegg and Frost after, their funny alien film Paul is also dropping.
The Sixth Sense (September 1 on Peacock)
Much as Shaun of the Dead put Edgar Wright on the map, The Sixth Sense put filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan on the map. It’s a creepy, excellent movie that’s way more than its surprise ending. And it set up a pretty awesome career of films, many of which are also arriving on Peacock this month. Films like Glass, Signs, Split, The Village, and others.
The New Star Trek Trilogy (September 1 on Peacock)
We’ll probably never see Chris Pine as Captain Kirk again, but at least we got three films out of it. The entire new Enterprise crew is coming to Peacock with Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond.
