Hollywood remains divided over the $111 billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, but Tom Cruise refuses to join the chorus of critics. The actor voiced strong support for the deal and its ambitious output goals during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “I think it’s awesome,” Cruise said when asked about the merger and CEO David Ellison’s commitment to release 30 films annually.
The Mission: Impossible and Top Gun star framed his support around personal relationships rather than corporate strategy. “It’s a community to me. It’s not an industry. The people in these studios are not just people in the studios. They’re my family,” Cruise told the host.
His comments arrive at a tense moment for the newly formed ParaBros entity. A coalition of twelve state attorneys general continues to challenge the deal on antitrust grounds, contesting the company’s request to retain a $1.88 billion bond. Reports also suggest Paramount leadership threatened to relocate operations out of Los Angeles if a settlement fails to materialize by October 1. A federal judge has scheduled the trial for March 2.
Tom Cruise showed no concern over these legal battles. “They’re going to deliver 30 movies,” he insisted, directly endorsing Ellison’s production target that many industry observers have mocked as unrealistic. The actor expanded his vision beyond a single studio’s output. He urged artists across Hollywood to support the ambitious slate.
“I know we’re going to get those 30 movies,” Cruise said. “I want us all to come together as a community to help make those 30 movies. It’s not just going to be, you know, Paramount doing it. Everyone’s going to need all the help of every artist to be able to do it.” Otherwise, opposition to the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery deal remains vocal.
