James Gunn’s Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, is set to be another superpowered affair, with the upcoming DC Universe movie packed with future Justice Leaguers. However, DC Studios is missing an opportunity to begin building early hype for the blockbuster by refusing to divulge whether Adria Arjona is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman.
After Supergirl flopped at the box office, Man of Tomorrow needs to be a sure-fire hit. It doesn’t matter that Clayface is the next DCU movie hitting theaters. Its smaller budget and R-rating make it an outlier in the grand scheme of the shared universe.
Man of Tomorrow will be PG-13 like Superman, Supergirl, and the majority of superhero movies. There was already concern that Superman didn’t make enough at the box office, so Man of Tomorrow needs to be a smash.
However, Gunn is choosing to keep a lot of Man of Tomorrow under wraps, including one actor’s role that could very well make or break the movie.
James Gunn revealing Adria Arjona’s role can save Man of Tomorrow from potential criticism
Adria Arjona joined the Man of Tomorrow cast in April 2026. While trades initially reported her to be playing Maxima, the alien warrior-queen who believes Superman is her suitable mate, that seems to no longer be the case. Rumors now have her pegged as Wonder Woman, a much more sizable and important role in the DCU.
The mystery surrounding Arjona’s role is very similar to that of Sadie Sink’s in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Despite leaks, rumors, and set photos all but confirming that Sink was playing X-Men member Jean Grey, Marvel Studios and Sony never announced who the actor had been cast as until the movie was out.
While that bit of unnecessary secrecy may work for an almost 20-year-old shared universe, it doesn’t for the DCU. Two years in, the general audience is still pretty split on this DC Extended Universe successor. There’s already been a lot of criticism regarding how Superman-focused the DCU feels.
DC is not in a position of power where they can keep Wonder Woman’s DCU debut a surprise reveal. If Arjona is playing the superhero, that’s something the audience needs to know ahead of time, as it will definitely get people who may otherwise not see Man of Tomorrow in theaters to buy a ticket.
Further, Arjona is currently busy promoting her latest movie, Onslaught, where she is repeatedly asked about Man of Tomorrow. Since her role hasn’t been revealed, Arjona has been giving nothing-burger answers. This is free marketing that DC is missing out on, as Arjona could be hyping up her forthcoming debut as Wonder Woman and what her DCU future holds.
Even if Arjona is playing someone less popular like Maxima, people will still be disappointed because the rumors led them to believe she was Wonder Woman. Sorry, Gunn, but a character like Maxima does not warrant Jean Grey-level secrecy.
With less than a year to go until Man of Tomorrow, Gunn needs to make sure he’s not wasting a major character reveal like Wonder Woman. Now is not the time for surprises; the DCU needs all the help it can get. If Arjona is the Princess Diana of Themyscira, it’s time the public finds out.
