Jose Alvarado is about to find out how long he can survive against New York’s NBA 2K crowd.
The New York Knicks guard and reigning NBA champion will take part in a special NBA 2K League event Monday at Grand Ferry Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where fans will get the chance to challenge him in NBA 2K27 inside the league’s mobile gaming truck.
The event is scheduled to run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET and continues a playful promotional concept that has recently featured NBA players being “locked” in the 2K League Truck while fans attempt to knock them off. Alvarado’s appearance carries an added local connection: the Brooklyn native returned home last season and became part of the Knicks team that captured the 2026 NBA championship.
Fans will not simply be playing for bragging rights.
According to the event listing, the participants who put together the longest winning streaks during the afternoon will receive free NBA 2K27 game codes. The setup gives attendees the rare opportunity to test themselves directly against an active NBA player in the virtual version of the sport he plays professionally.

Alvarado has become an especially fitting personality for an event built around competition and interaction with fans. Known throughout his NBA career for his relentless energy, defense and willingness to embrace challenges, he now gets to carry that same spirit into a completely different arena.
The timing also gives the event an extra layer of celebration. Alvarado helped New York win the 2026 title after joining the Knicks during the season, and the franchise re-signed him to a multiyear contract this summer. NBA.com lists him as a one-time NBA champion, giving Monday’s gaming event the feel of another hometown victory lap.
This time, however, the challenge will not involve picking up opposing guards full court or creating havoc defensively.
It will involve controllers, NBA 2K27 and a steady line of fans trying to send the champion home with a virtual loss.
