Sebastian Stan has spent over a decade playing Bucky Barnes, but the character has never received a solo film. Now, the actor has revealed he pitched Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on exactly that, and the concept has fans demanding Marvel make it happen immediately.

Stan revealed to New York Magazine that he “half-jokingly” pitched a spinoff movie on Bucky Barnes. The idea, described as “Sicario-esque,” would strip away the massive CGI spectacle typical of Marvel blockbusters in favor of something far more grounded and personal. “We keep a real small budget,” Stan explained.
“It’s about a guy who thinks he recognizes someone from his past that had something to do with when, you know, he was brainwashed, and he gets obsessed with this person.” The actor continued, “He goes on a whole journey to try to figure out who this person is. It’s a thriller.”
Feige responded with, “Yeah, that sounds cool,” but Stan gave no indication the project entered any kind of development pipeline. However, the internet reacted fast. Comments flooded in, with fans posting things like, “Goddammit Feige, give him his movie!!!” and “HELLO THAT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE?!?!?!”
The enthusiasm makes sense. A Winter Soldier movie built on obsession, memory, and guilt plays into the character’s core trauma. Bucky spent decades as a brainwashed assassin. A story where he hunts someone connected to that lost time and cannot tell if his memories are real is deemed to fit him perfectly.
Marvel has taken chances on similar passion projects before. Ryan Gosling campaigned hard for a Ghost Rider movie and got one greenlit for summer 2028. Stan’s pitch occupies the same lane: smaller, darker, and more character-focused than the typical MCU entry.
Until then, Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky in Avengers: Doomsday this December. He may also appear in Secret Wars and Batman Part II. Whether his solo thriller ever moves forward remains unknown, but the fan demand has never been louder.
