Marvel Comics is preparing to dive into the mysterious backstory of Spider-Man’s newest symbiote companion, Symbie. The one-shot Amazing Spider-Man: Symbie #1 will trace the character’s history, revealing its Klyntar race connections, the same alien lineage that produced Venom and Carnage.
The special comic comes from The Amazing Spider-Man comic writer Joe Kelly and artist David Baldeón. It is a standalone issue that focuses entirely on the origins of Symbie, a little mischievous alien creature that has gained quick popularity. Unlike Venom and Carnage, this little creature does not need a host.
The little alien symbiote was first introduced in Disney Jr.’s animated show titled Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends. It later made its Marvel Comics debut in Amazing Spider-Man #11, written by Joe Kelly and illustrated by Pepe Larraz.
Symbie’s mysterious past could rewrite what fans know about Marvel’s symbiotes
The latest issue will send Spider-Man back to the very beginning of the Klyntar, the home planet of Marvel’s popular symbiotes. It explores the journey of the creature while offering a deeper look at the history that eventually led to Venom and Carnage.
Marvel’s description teases that Symbie’s history could surprise readers. Spider-Man first encountered the unusual creature in space without knowing anything about its past. That indicates how readers will explore the early timeline of the cute companion that connects directly to the dangerous ancient history of his species.
Writer Kelly said the character’s design quickly attracted him. “There’s something intriguing about a symbiote in the Marvel Universe that runs around without a host… it’s weird and unnerving, right?” he said, adding that the book turned out “funny, layered, surprisingly dark, and flat out weird.”
Additionally, the issue will include a bonus backup story. Jacob Chabot writes and illustrates it, which follows the spirit of the Symbiote Infinity Comic.
Amazing Spider-Man: Symbie #1 arrives in comic shops on December 9, 2026.
