Wicked and Wicked: For Good live-to-film concerts to happen in 2027
Universal Film and Universal Destinations & Experiences are launching a live-to-film concert series for Wicked and Wicked: For Good,Deadlinereports. The concerts officially premiere at Radio City Music Hall on January 23, 2027. San Francisco hosts a special preview on January 16. Wicked: Part One In Concert kicks off the series as the first event.
The concert experiences will feature the films projected on an HD screen. A live symphony orchestra will perform Stephen Schwartz’s songs and the underscore live-to-picture. Universal Film has partnered with Justin Hurwitz’s company Hurwitz Concerts for the production. Hurwitz Concerts has previously toured La La Land in Concert and Whiplash in Concert since 2023.
“When I’ve seen live concerts of film scores, I’ve always found it an amazing experience, so I’m delighted that the Wicked movies are now becoming film concerts, especially under the expert direction of Oscar-winner Justin Hurwitz and his talented team,” Schwartz said.
“I absolutely love the live-to-film format and think the Wicked films are so perfect for it,” Hurwitz added. “It’s an honor for me to help bring Stephen Schwartz’s masterpiece musical and John Powell’s brilliant, cinematic underscore to concert venues around the world.”
Jon M. Chu directed both Wicked and Wicked: For Good. The films star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. The cast also includes Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Ethan Slater. Songs include “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” and “For Good.”
Additional announced tour dates include Chicago on January 30 and Mexico City on March 6. The tour will also visit Guadalajara, Monterrey, Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver through July 2027.
