Austin Abrams is fighting for his life in the latest Whalefall trailer. The upcoming survival thriller comes from 20th Century Studios and is helmed by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Underwater).
The official synopsis for Whalefall reads, “Following the death of his father, Jay Gardiner goes diving off the central Coast of California in search of his remains, but is swallowed by a massive sperm whale. While trapped inside its belly with only one hour of oxygen left, Jay comes to realize that the hard-earned lessons his father imparted may be the key to his escape.”

What happens in Whalefall trailer?
The new Whalefall trailer features scuba diver Jay Gardiner, played by Austin Abrams. He dives off California’s Central Coast, hoping to find the remains of his late father, Mitt Gardiner, played by Josh Brolin. However, he gets swallowed by a giant sperm whale. “I’m in the whale!”, he screams. “Help me!”
The trailer then shows Jay only has an hour of oxygen left while stuck inside the whale. As he tries to fight for his life, he recalls flashbacks of his father’s teachings. “Son, what are you going to do? Just accept your fate?” says the voiceover. “Remember…survivors survive.” His father’s voiceover adds, “If you don’t listen to me… you’re dead!”
Whalefall’s cast also features Elisabeth Shue (Hollow Man, Leaving Las Vegas), Jane Levy (Suburgatory, Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, Monster Trucks), Emily Rudd (Hunters, One Piece, Fear Street series), John Ortiz (American Gangster, Miami Vice, Going in Style), Sam Franich (The Iron Claw), Grayson Paul Solomine, Sam Skolnik, Nicholas Gould, and Laurel Land Bowen.
The movie is based on Daniel Kraus’ 2023 novel of the same name. Its producers include Brian Grazer, Brian Duffield, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum.
Whalefall hits theaters on October 16, 2026.
