Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall’s creative team revealed why Michael Mando was the perfect choice for Bane. Mando will voice the iconic character Bane in the animated movie, a role previously portrayed by Tom Hardy in the live-action Batman film.
ComingSoon Entertainment’s Content Specialist, Brandon Schreur, recently interacted with the project’s supervising producer, Rick Morales. When asked how they finalized the casting, Morales stated that when voice director Wes Gleason proposed Mando’s name, the production thought it was an interesting pick.
The supervising producer elaborated, “And I think everybody thought it was such an interesting pick. I had to think about it a little bit, but then I was like — he’s got such an intensity to him. And such a commitment to the roles he plays. It felt like he could pull it off.”
Mando is well-known for his role as Scorpion in the MCU’s Spider-Man movies. His recent appearance came in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Following the benchmark set by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, fans will be curious to see how the actor fares.
Michael Mando’s deep understanding of Bane helped seal the casting decision
Reflecting on Michael Mando’s casting as Bane, Morales praised the actor for his deep understanding of the character. During their first recording session, the supervising producer felt that Mando really understood Bane and had studied the character carefully.
Morales shared with ComingSoon Entertainment, “At our first recording session, it was just like, ‘This guy gets it.’ He loved the character, he knew the character, and he was well-studied. He knew the material really well; I think he memorized the whole script. And he just came in with such a fire.”
Rick Morales further added, “It was great because he had a lot of ideas about him, too. There were things like, ‘Well, why would he say that?’ He just got so into the character that I felt like I could roll with him.”
The supervising producer of Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall felt that Mando was deeply immersed in the character and understood his personality and motivation. Further praising Michael Mando’s intense performance in the violent scenes, Morales added, “And the venom he was able to summon up when saying some of those lines; when he’s browbeating Bruce at the end, and he’s beating him, it’s just painful to watch.”
