Mohamed Belloumi struck twice as Hull City took a surprise 2-1 lead at Chelsea after Morgan Rogers had opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday.
Winger Belloumi met Ryan Giles’ bouncing ball with a firm finish in space inside the penalty area in the 28th minute, then repeated the trick via a deflection after Semi Ajayi’s header hit the crossbar.
“Look at these scenes,” former Crystal Palace captain Joel Ward told BBC Radio 5 Live of Hull’s fans. “They are living the dream.
“They’re enjoying it, they’re soaking this up. What a comeback. They’ve been solid, they’ve kept themselves in the game.
“They’ve capitalised on the opportunities they’ve had and been clinical in front of goal. They hit the bar from a corner, it bounces back out and it’s a great strike.
“It took a little deflection but it was on target. They’ve caught Chelsea off-guard.”
Chelsea vs Hull: Belloumi double in Premier League
New £117 million signing Rogers collected Joao Pedro’s pass and beat goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from inside the box on the left in the seventh minute to put Chelsea in front.
“It was a quick breakaway,” observed Ward. “To have a front three with Cole Palmer, Rogers and Joao Pedro, with the way they transition up the pitch and the quality they’ve got, they can hurt you.
“It was a beautiful strike from Rogers. He took it onto his left foot and hit a low-driven strike into the bottom corner. The ‘keeper couldn’t quite get down quickly enough.”
Play-off winners Hull have been one of the stories of the season so far, taking seven points from their previous three top-flight matches without conceding – and Sergej Jakirovic’s moved top of the live table after Belloumi’s second.
“It was a bit of a nothing ball forward over the top,” Ward said of the Algerian’s first. “Just hooked into the penalty area.
“It’s fallen kindly to Belloumi and he’s struck it well, beautifully down into the bottom corner… as a travelling supporter, these are the days you dream about and the away days you love.”

Malo Gusto and Levi Colwill were the only players to retain their places from Chelsea’s 6-3 home win over Leeds United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, recovering from 2-0 behind.
Maxence Lacroix – a summer signing from Crystal Palace – dropped to the bench for the first time this season.
Chelsea: Martinez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Hato; James, Lavia; Neto, Palmer, Rogers; Pedro.

Hull City team vs Chelsea
Nobel Mendy, Lewie Coyle and Matt Crooks were Hull’s only three starting players retained from their 1-0 defeat at Sunderland in the EFL Cup on Tuesdsay.
Crooks’ inclusion was the only change from the side that started last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, with Lucas Gourna-Douath again on the bench.
Sorba Thomas was fit for a place on the bench despite being involved in a car accident on Friday in which the new signing was unharmed.
Hull: Tzolakis; Ajayi, Egan, Mendy; Coyle, Crooks, Slater, Giles; Belloumi, McBurnie, Stroud.
Hull substitutes: Cho, Gourna-Douath, Herrington, Iroegbunam, Norton-Cuffy, Phillips, Targett, Thomas, Vaz.
