Tottenham failed to score in their first four league games of a season for the first time after being held to a 0-0 draw by unbeaten Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Toffees went closest to a winner on several occasions, with former Spurs winger Brennan Johnson blasting a presentable second-half opportunity over the crossbar.
Tottenham winger Rodrigo Bentancur had earlier blocked a goalbound shot by Tyrique George, whose cross also set up Thierno Barry for a header that was fortuitously saved by Antonin Kinsky.
Jan Paul van Hecke sent an early volley over the target for Spurs, who were relieved when Kinsky sent a pass straight to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in a dangerous position after the break, only to redeem himself by saving the midfielder’s strike.

Tottenham vs Everton: Spurs drought goes on
Spurs took their first point of the campaign at the third attempt with a draw at Nottingham Forest last Saturday but head coach Roberto De Zerbi occasionally looked exasperated as his side extended their wait for a league goal to more than seven hours of football here.
Boos occasionally rang out from the home fans. “I don’t think there’s any question about the effort that they put out there,” former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer told BBC Radio 5 Live of Tottenham.
“One worry, for me, is that you’re relying on Van Hecke for a lot of your deliveries inside the box. You’ve got all this creativity on the team and it’s the centre-back who’s their playback for everything.
“[Kinsky was] so, so fortunate. He made a massive mistake and played it straight to Everton. His recovery run, though, was exceptional. It was his own doing, but he had to make amends and he certainly did.”

Brennan Johnson: ‘Massive chance’ for Everton
Wales international Johnson was at Spurs between 2023 and 2025 and joined Everton this year following a brief spell at Crystal Palace.
“It was a brilliant cross from Dewsbury-Hall – really good,” Schwarzer said of Johnson’s opportunity.
“He knows exactly where Brennan Johnson is. He just comes across it, opens up his body with an open foot and kind of slides across the ball.
“Therefore, it just flies out high and right of the goal, and misses in the end by quite a bit. Massive chance – absolutely huge.”
Everton are now unbeaten in five matches in all competitions and on six points, having drawn 2-2 at home to Manchester United last Sunday through Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ spectacular long-range equaliser in the 96th minute.

Spurs made four changes, including a first league start of the season for striker Dominic Solanke.
Andy Robertson, Mateus Fernandes and Archie Gray came in, while deadline-day signing Tosin Adarabioyo was in a matchday squad for the first time.
Full-backs Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, wingers Mykhailo Mudryk, Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert and midfielder Xavi Simons were injured.
Playmaker James Maddison returned on the bench following a shoulder problem.
