Draymond Green does not see Brandon Ingram’s situation with the Los Angeles Clippers as a long-term destination. He sees it as an opportunity.
Speaking about the Clippers’ bleak outlook following the franchise’s recent turmoil, Green said Ingram should approach the coming season with one clear goal: play well enough to restore his value and put himself in position for another move.
“Brandon Ingram, you’re going through this situation and you’re trying to ball, you try because when you look at the situation that’s now left behind, it’s not a good one.”
Green was even more direct about the Clippers’ future.
“It’s awful, actually. And this team has no near future. You’re talking a future 10 years down the road.”
The Clippers have been left with severely limited draft capital and very little room for error, making it difficult to build a sustainable contender in the immediate future.
For Ingram, Green believes that uncertainty changes the way he should view his role.
Rather than getting caught up in the franchise’s long-term problems, Green said Ingram should use the opportunity to remind the league what he is capable of.
“You can go be an All-Star again. You can go dominate and ultimately put yourself in a position to where the Clippers can trade you somewhere that needs you and they can acquire some picks because they need picks.”
Green’s point is essentially that Ingram’s individual success could benefit both sides.
If Ingram returns to the level that once made him an All-Star, his trade value rises. For the Clippers, that could create a path toward recovering some of the draft assets they desperately need. For Ingram, it could open the door to a team with a clearer path toward contention.
Green also believes playing alongside Darius Garland could help make that possible.
“This is an opportunity for me next to Darius Garland to go and do that.”
The fit could give Ingram another chance to operate as a primary scorer without having to carry every possession himself. Garland’s playmaking and ability to create advantages off the dribble could give Ingram more favorable opportunities, while Ingram’s size and shot-making remain valuable tools in half-court offense.
But Green believes the bigger picture should be impossible for both players to ignore.
“If you’re those guys, you have to know that if I can raise my value, they’re going to trade me because they need picks.”

It is a harsh way to frame the situation, but it captures the Clippers’ current reality. With their long-term flexibility badly damaged, veteran players who rebuild their value may become some of the franchise’s most useful assets.
