This would not be another two-round demolition arranged to restore Itauma’s confidence. Knyba is tall, physically strong, and awkward enough to make him work. He would force Itauma to solve the kind of problems that cannot be removed with hand speed alone. That is precisely what Itauma needs.

The 21-year-old looked brilliant during the early rounds against Hrgovic. He dropped the Croatian in the second and attacked as though the fight had to end immediately. Nearly every punch carried maximum force. When Hrgovic refused to disappear, Itauma had no second plan. His pace dropped, his legs weakened, and the older man slowly took control. The early brilliance meant nothing once Itauma ran out of energy.

Knyba would give him the chance to show a different version of himself. He would need to work behind his jab, choose when to explode, and avoid wasting punches against a much taller target. Racing after an early knockout would only recreate the conditions that ruined him against Hrgovic.

There is danger involved. Knyba is coming off the biggest win of his career, and he gave Kabayel trouble before their controversial third-round stoppage in January. His reach, holding, and long right hand would make Itauma uncomfortable.

That is better than feeding Itauma another opponent who falls over the first time he lands cleanly.

Itauma does not need help rebuilding his knockout reel. He needs rounds, resistance, and a heavyweight who makes him think after the opening attack fails. If he can pace himself and control Knyba, talk of an eventual Hrgovic rematch becomes credible. If he sprints again and fades, the first loss taught him nothing.

However, Queensberry would almost certainly never greenlight Damian Knyba for Itauma right now. Agit Kabayel can suggest it from the luxury of an outside observer, but promotional houses do not manage prized, damaged twenty-one-year-old assets with philosophical purity. They protect them. Itauma did not just drop a competitive decision to Filip Hrgovic. His engine emptied completely, his legs betrayed him, and he took concussive punishment on the ropes until his corner had to halt the beating.

Itauma was carried out on a stretcher and needed hospital care for sheer exhaustion and trauma. That is the exact type of physical breakdown that permanently alters young fighters if handled carelessly. Putting him in with Knyba immediately afterward would be promotional malpractice from Queensberry’s standpoint. Knyba is six foot seven, durable, coming off a career-best win over Andy Ruiz Jr., and specializes in roughhouse, mauling tactics.

He leans on smaller opponents, drags out the tempo, and tests conditioning above all else. If Itauma still has stamina issues or hesitates when the early bombs do not drop the giant, Knyba would recreate the exact mental and physical trap that Hrgovic sprang. Promoters like Warren know how to handle post-demolition rehab. Look at how Daniel Dubois was rebuilt after Joe Joyce shattered his orbital bone, or how Anthony Joshua was handled after Andy Ruiz stopped him.

You do not hand a shell-shocked prospect an awkward, giant spoiler who thrives past the midpoint of a fight. Expect Queensberry to steer completely clear of someone like Knyba. They will scout an undersized, static veteran who makes Itauma look fast and destructive again, someone guaranteed to fold before round six. They need to rebuild the puncher’s aura and protect their commercial investment, not conduct a live, high-risk autopsy on his gas tank.
