FlixPatrol’s latest Netflix rankings listed The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare as No. 3. This puts it ahead of titles like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Those Who Wish Me Dead, The Whisper Man, Shark Tale, and The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist.
Archery gives Anders Lassen a signature twist in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Played by Alan Ritchson, the Danish commando can put a bow and arrow to deadly use. He hardly limits himself to the bow, though. Lassen switches to axes, knives, and guns when the fight gets up close and personal. In real life, Lassen also possessed formidable skill with a bow.
Guy Ritchie takes that larger-than-life warrior and drops him into a WWII adventure packed with bullets, explosions, and plenty of swagger. The film hit U.S. theaters on April 19, 2024, with Henry Cavill leading the cast as Gus March-Phillipps. Eiza González, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Ritchson round out the team. The story follows a band of unconventional operatives sent behind enemy lines to hit Nazi forces, with the mission drawing from the real-life Special Operations Executive.
Alan Ritchson’s over-the-top action style remains one of the movie’s biggest talking points. Fans have singled out the cast chemistry, combat sequences, and comedic timing as major reasons the film works for them. Rotten Tomatoes audiences have praised the performances and nonstop entertainment, although some have taken issue with its exaggerated tone and loose approach to historical events.
The movie had a roughly $60 million production budget but brought in only around $29.8 million worldwide during its theatrical release. IMDb currently rates it 6.8/10, while Rotten Tomatoes lists a 68% critics score and a much stronger 91% audience score, showing that fans have generally had more fun with it than the box office suggested.
