PFL CEO John Martin today announced that he is stepping down from his position within the company.
Martin – a BJJ black belt and former Turner Broadcasting CEO – took over the reins in July of last year. He attended his first event as boss less than a year ago when he oversaw the massive Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes rematch on October 3 in Dubai.
This summer, he brokered a massive merger with Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian’s Most Valuable Promotions. Just weeks later, he has left his post in what he claims to be a voluntary move.
John Martin exits PFL after MVP MMA merger
This morning, John Martin took to his personal Instagram page to share the news that he had left PFL on his own terms. Uncrowned.com’s Ariel Helwani was first to the news, sharing his statement to the broader public.
“After an incredible year and the successful combination of PFL and MVP, l’ve made the decision to step down as CEO of the combined company,” he wrote.
“I’m enormously proud of what this team has accomplished and couldn’t have more confidence in what comes next. Nakisa and I worked closely together to bring these companies together, and I believe he is the natural person to lead this next chapter.
“I’m grateful to the entire team and Board for their partnership, and I’ll be cheering for MVP as both a former executive and a fan.”
Conflicting reports have since emerged, and at the time of writing neither Nakisa Bidarian, Jake Paul or Martin himself have made any actual public statements.
Multiple sources have confirmed to Bloody Elbow that reports on X from veteran MMA reporter Robert Joyner of Martin being pushed out as opposed to voluntarily leaving are – for the most part – accurate.
