Based on their first two encounters, Tony Bellew finds it impossible to go against one man in a potential trilogy showdown between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn.
The two British rivals collided in April 2025, around two-and-a-half years after their match was cancelled due to Benn testing positive for banned substance clomifene.
Back then, the pair had agreed to a catchweight of 157lbs whereas, this time around, Eubank was afforded the chance to compete at middleweight.
There were, however, increasing doubts that he still belonged at 160lbs and, on top of that, Eubank was financially incentivised to keep below 170lbs on the morning of fight night.
Yet despite the rehydration clause, the former world title challenger unanimously outpointed Benn in one of the best fights of 2025.
With the same weight stipulations in place, Benn then ended up winning their rematch by a much wider margin in November, with Eubank even suffering two 12th-round knockdowns.
As a result, former world champion Bellew cannot see past a repeat of proceedings the third time around, telling Fight Your Corner that he would heavily favour Benn in a rubber match.
“The rematch was so one-sided – you can’t not say Conor [wins the trilogy]. How can you predict [in favour of] Eubank after that fight?
“When he was at his best in the first fight, Conor still took him to the absolute well.”
While nothing is set in stone, there has, indeed, been talk of a third Eubank fight following Benn’s second-round stoppage defeat to Ryan Garcia earlier this month.
In any case, the 29-year-old is likely to move up in weight after being somewhat exposed at the upper echelon of 147lbs.
