Mahershala Ali’s Alita: Battle Angel is returning to a streaming service it has called home before. The $404 million sci-fi film will soon be available on Hulu again. The 2019 release will return to the platform after a stint on Prime Video. The return comes as Ali’s association with Marvel’s Blade reboot has come to an end.
Mahershala Ali’s Alita: Battle Angel will stream on Hulu next month
Alita: Battle Angel is set to return to Hulu next month. This will give subscribers another opportunity to watch the Mahershala Ali-led sci-fi film. According to Hulu Press, the movie will arrive on the streaming service on October 1, 2026. It is currently streaming on Prime Video and has previously been available on Hulu.
The Robert Rodriguez-directed film is set in a futuristic world and centers on Alita, a cyborg who wakes up with no memory of her identity. After Dr. Ido discovers her and takes her in, Alita begins adjusting to a new life. As Alita becomes familiar with Iron City, she forms a friendship with Hugo, who helps her regain fragments of her lost memories.
However, her circumstances quickly change when her exceptional combat skills come to light. The cast includes Rosa Salazar as Alita, Christoph Waltz as Dr. Dyson Ido, Jennifer Connelly as Dr. Chiren, Mahershala Ali as Vector, and Ed Skrein as Zapan, among others.
The film had a mixed critical reception following its theatrical release on February 14, 2019. Alita: Battle Angel currently has a 61% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, its audience score is considerably higher at 91 percent. The movie also earned approximately $405 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
The film’s return to Hulu also comes after Ali’s recent comments about the canceled Blade reboot. He was announced as the lead for the reboot in 2019, but the project underwent a series of changes during its development. Ali later confirmed that he was no longer involved with the film, which is now moving ahead without him as he focuses on other projects.
