Robert Eggers‘ upcoming period gothic folk-horror film, Werwulf, has received a second trailer. The movie also features Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp.
The second trailer for Werwulf dropped on September 26, 2026. Interestingly, the trailer launch date has been perfectly timed to coincide with the September full moon. This is not new, as the previous one also dropped on a full moon day in June.
The new trailer shows some absolutely terrifying scenes involving Depp, Willem Dafoe, and others. Incidentally, both Depp and Dafoe have previously worked with Eggers in the critically acclaimed project, Nosferatu.
Previously, Eggers detailed why he wanted to sync the trailers with the full moon. The filmmaker told Empire, back in June 2026, “For the werewolf nerds out there, it’s commonly stated that the full moon’s connection to werewolves began in cinema. But I found a very, very old English text – older than the period of the film – that does say that werewolves are affected by the cycle of the moon. And there is also some stuff in some Icelandic literature. So… I went for it.”

What else do we know about Robert Eggers’ Werwulf movie?
Written and directed by Robert Eggers, Werwulf follows a mute 14th-century peasant who is cursed to transform into a werewolf during every full moon. The quiet family man is portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Sjón is the co-writer for the story.
The official synopsis of the horror film reads, “Witness Robert Eggers’ most visceral and haunting experience yet. Focus Features presents WERWULF, a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within.”
Alongside Defoe, Depp, and Taylor-Johnson, the cast features Ralph Ineson, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Ned Dennehy, Kate Dickie, Valeriia Karaman, Tony McCarthy, Hannah Harpin, Jan Bijvoet, Preslav Shipkaliev, Jack Morris, and others.
Werwulf is produced by Robert Eggers p.g.a., Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Garrett Bird p.g.a., and Sjón. Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, and Bernard Bellew are the executive producers for the project.
Werwulf is scheduled to hit the theaters on December 25, 2026.
