Dana White lost his temper at Saturday’s Zuffa Boxing post-fight press conference in London. Reporters kept asking about his role in Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua, and White’s answers went from sarcastic to openly hostile.
The first question about the December 11 fight drew an eye roll in words: “Have I not answered this question 257,000 times?” But the questions kept coming because his role is still disputed and the fight itself may be in trouble. White admitted he did not know if it would happen.
One reporter pressed him on Eddie Hearn’s claim that Joshua’s contract bars White, Zuffa and TKO from involvement. White asked if anyone had claimed he was trying to sign Joshua. The reporter explained that the question was about promoting the fight, not signing the fighter. White replied that he was promoting it already, then launched into another attack on Hearn.
The exchange got uglier when the reporter asked if White would step back if his involvement threatened the fight. White said that decision was not his. Pressed on whose decision it was, he said he did not know, accused the reporter of asking leading questions, and mocked him as someone who had wandered in off the street with a phone. The reporter pushed back: nobody in the room seemed to know who was involved or what was happening with the fight.
White also snapped at a question about Turki Alalshikh’s view of the dispute, asking the reporter if he had arrived with the man White had challenged earlier. When another question finally turned to Zuffa’s remaining shows this year, White called it “a good question. Finally.”
This was hard to watch. White did not have to accept Hearn’s account, but the reporters were asking about an announced fight whose promotion remains contested. Swearing at them and mocking their questions did nothing to clear it up. It made Zuffa’s most visible figure look unable to handle scrutiny when the company needed a calm answer.
White said there should be more clarity in three or four days. If these questions are going to keep setting him off, Zuffa should put someone else in front of the press to answer them
