Carl Froch has updated his prediction for Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua, which has been announced for Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.
An official announcement arrived last week, confirming the date and location for their long-awaited showdown which, according to the promotional material, has been in the works for 10 years.
Additionally, the two Brits are set to collide for a world title, with it reported that the WBA ‘super’ belt will be up for grabs.
If this proves to be the case, then the winner will become a three-time world heavyweight champion while, perhaps more importantly, securing a satisfying victory over their long-time domestic rival.
As for the fight itself, many would consider Fury a sizable favourite based on his unanimous decision victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov and seventh-round stoppage of Mariusz Wach.
Neither was a vintage performance, of course, but ‘The Gypsy King’ nonetheless encountered minimal difficulty while Joshua, on the other hand, was compelled to survive two knockdowns against Kristian Prenga in July.
The 36-year-old ultimately secured a second-round finish but, speaking on his YouTube channel, Hall of Famer Froch maintained his belief that the 38-year-old Fury remains a superior fighter.
“They’ve both been beat [but] only one of them’s been splattered – and you know who that was. So you know who I’m making [the] favourite.
“I think Tyson Fury’s got the edge – he looked good against Makhmudov. He had a move around, did what he needed to do, got 12 rounds in the bank.
“Anthony Joshua – he’s looked terrible. He got absolutely flattened by Daniel Dubois. He looked terrible against Prenga – round one, he got hit with half an uppercut, went over, then Prenga didn’t throw a punch and he won the fight.
“But it’s going to be difficult for him to beat Tyson Fury.”
Joshua’s fifth-round stoppage defeat to Dubois arrived in September 2024, prior to him scoring a sixth-round finish over Jake Paul last December.
Since Froch’s prediction, the fight has been plunged into doubt once more, with reports suggesting that, despite the contracts, date and venue, it could all still fall apart.
