Kawhi Leonard’s controversial off-court financial arrangements are back in the spotlight after investigative journalist Pablo Torre uncovered new details surrounding nearly $1.9 million in payments connected to the former Los Angeles Clippers superstar and a mysterious account identified as “CLIP.”

In the latest episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, Torre presented internal financial records and government documents concerning Boingo Wireless, a former Clippers business partner, and Leonard’s appearance at a United States Marine Corps base in California in September 2022. The appearance reportedly lasted approximately one hour.

According to Torre, Leonard received $672,000 through a prepaid agreement with Boingo for an appearance at Camp Pendleton, where he met with Marines and posed for photographs. The payment was reportedly arranged before the event took place.

Additional financial documents revealed a separate agreement worth approximately $1.21 million involving the Clippers and Boingo. Together, the two amounts totaled roughly $1.89 million, raising further questions about the financial relationships between Leonard, the team and its commercial partners.

The event itself was relatively modest. Photographs obtained through public-records requests showed Leonard interacting with military personnel, accompanied by several familiar figures, including his uncle and former representative Dennis Robertson, then-Clippers staff member Jeremy Castleberry and Boingo CEO Mike Finley.

One former Boingo executive interviewed in connection with Torre’s investigation expressed serious concerns about the arrangement.

“It is really gross,” the former executive said, questioning whether the Marines understood the financial circumstances surrounding Leonard’s appearance.

The revelations come just weeks after the NBA announced major penalties against the Clippers and Leonard following an independent investigation into salary cap circumvention.

The league concluded that the Clippers had improperly facilitated additional income opportunities for Leonard through four companies doing business with the organization: Aspiration Partners, Boingo Wireless, Daktronics and Lockton Insurance.

The NBA fined the Clippers $30 million and stripped the franchise of five first-round draft picks between 2029 and 2033. Owner Steve Ballmer received a one-year suspension, while several executives were also sanctioned. Leonard was ordered to pay the league $700,000, and Robertson was prohibited from conducting NBA-related business for five years.
