A popular Guardians of the Galaxy star has finally addressed his viral comment about Rocket Raccoon‘s future in the MCU. During his recent appearance on Brandon Davis’ podcast, the actor shared a shocking update on the character.
In an exclusive interview with ComingSoon‘s Tyler Treese, Sean Gunn shed light on his comment where he considered himself “retired” as Rocket Raccoon.
Gunn responded, “I made that comment about retiring and playing Rocket on that Brandon Davis podcast, and I didn’t know it was going to be such a big deal.”
The 50-year-old still stands by his words. He added, “I’m not going to be able to go to a movie for six months where I’m squatting like a baseball catcher on set for hours at a time every day.”
To make his point clear, Gunn continued, “I’m just a little too old for that.” He revealed that he already “knew when Guardians 3 wrapped five years ago, I think I knew that’s probably the last movie where I’ll be putting on the knee pads to play Rocket.”
Which MCU movies did Sean Gunn play Rocket Raccoon in?
Sean Gunn originally appeared as Rocket Raccoon in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, over a decade ago. He provided the on-set motion capture and physical reference. Bradley Cooper voiced the role.
Gunn returned to the beloved role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, before playing Rocket Raccoon in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He returned to the role in Thor: Love and Thunder.
He also appeared as Rocket Raccoon in the special TV film The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It was released on Disney+. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was the last MCU movie featuring Sean Gunn as Rocket Raccoon.
Marvel has not yet revealed whether the character will return.
