Michael Carrick and Manchester United have been handed a welcome boost ahead of the Premier League fixture with Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action next weekend as they make the trip to Manchester United. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are in desperate need of a win as they currently sit bottom of the table having drawn two and lost three of their five league games so far this season.
Man Utd have only won once themselves, however, so it should make for a tense encounter at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick has been handed a boost ahead of Saturday’s clash as he may be able to call upon a player for the very first time.
Carlos Baleba signed from Brighton in a £70million deal in August but has not featured in a competitive game due to an ankle injury sustained in pre-season with the Seagulls.

The 22-year-old did make the bench for the 1-1 draw at Fulham immediately prior to the international break and has continued working towards full fitness at the club’s Carrington training complex.
The midfielder actually played his first minutes in a Manchester United shirt during a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday. Baleba took part in a training game against Swiss side Lausanne-Sport alongside fellow first-teamers including Harry Maguire and Matheus Cunha.
Friday’s game with Lausanne – a sister club of United’s – was an important marker in Baleba’s return to fitness with the Cameroon international having been undergoing a specific training programme over the past few weeks.
The game, which United reportedly won 2-1, also saw a number of youngsters involved due to the majority of first team stars being on international duty. Carrick’s son Jacey featured along with Amir Ibragimov, Yuel Helafu and Victor Musa. Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik were also given minutes.
Carrick told club media recently that Baleba was “pushing to get back as quickly as possible” from injury and it now seems he is ready to feature for United, likely against Tottenham on Saturday.
De Zerbi, meanwhile, is sweating on the fitness of two players ahead of the clash against the Red Devils. Jan Paul van Hecke picked up a toe injury on international duty with the Netherlands this week, with the defender now back at Hotspur Way as the extent of his injury is assessed.
Dejan Kulusevski is edging closer to his return to a matchday squad after more than 500 days out of the game and has continued to train with his team-mates this week at Hotspur Way. The Swede has been out since May last year after suffering a complicated injury to the patella in his right knee but is now nearing a return.
De Zerbi will provide an update on Van Hecke and Kulusevski next week ahead of the match against Man Utd and all at Tottenham will be hoping the duo are fit enough to be included in the matchday squad.
