Lanternsfans have a lot to say about theSeason 1 finale’smost shocking twist. Viewers are reacting toHal Jordan’s killer reveal and his controversial death scene in the HBO series.
Lanterns fans react to Hal Jordan’s killer
The Lanterns Season 1 finale revealed that Sheriff Kerry Kane killed Hal Jordan. The twist sparked strong reactions across social media from fans of the HBO series. Many viewers questioned the creative decision to have a non-superpowered character end the legendary Green Lantern’s life.
One fan listed iconic Green Lantern villains before expressing frustration. “Not Sinestro. Not Atrocious. Not The Anti-Monitor. Not Black Hand. Not The Man Hunters,” they wrote. They added that an “emotional woman” should not have been the one to kill such a legendary character.
Another viewer shared a similar sentiment about the writing choice. “I still don’t get why of all people in Lantern, the Writers decided Hal should be killed by her,” they posted. One user called it “the stupidest decision, build up and pay off ever.” They added that the reveal angered them deeply.

A more politically charged take also gained traction online with over 425,000 views. That user called Jordan “the greatest Green Lantern” and criticized the show’s creators directly. They declared that “James Gunn’s DC universe is dead on arrival.”
Fans can’t get over Jordan’s death scene
Meanwhile, fans also mocked the actual depiction of Jordan’s death beyond the killer’s identity. Viewers circulated a GIF showing Chandler’s Hal sitting down after being shot rather than collapsing.
In particular, one viewer highlighted this moment as their main issue with the finale. “The fact that Hal literally just sat down after getting shot in the head instead of falling to the ground was a little suspect,” they wrote.
Another fan said they could not stop laughing at the scene. “These people really thought this is how someone who was shot in the head would fall,” they posted. A well-known scooper also shared the GIF and simply asked, “Why was he sitting like this?”
