Several years after the full game was cancelled and the demo delisted, P.T. has made a shocking return on PC.
Back when legendary game developer Hideo Kojima and Konami were still on good terms, the pair were planning a bold, new entry in the Silent Hill series, made in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro.
In true Kojima fashion, Silent Hills, as it would have been called, was announced through a public PlayStation Store demo simply titled: P.T. (which stands for Playable Teaser).
After Konami cut ties with Kojima, the game was canned, and the demo was ripped from the PS Store. Norman Reedus was originally meant to star in the game, but got to work with Kojima years later in Death Stranding.
P.T. lives on through the PS4s it’s still installed on, and now a PC re-release
While there have been several fan-made attempts at re-releasing the demo, either through Unreal Engine remakes or spiritual successors, the real deal has always been locked away on some PlayStation 4 consoles.
Thankfully, that’s about to change as a clever gamer is successfully decompiling the playable teaser for an unofficial PC port.
You can see roughly 30 minutes of PC gameplay through Lorean The Gamer’s video below, but the project is yet to be completed. Lorean did say in the video’s description, however, that it’s “around 97% done. Not much left. No release date yet.”
The port bolsters in-game sound, resolution and framerate. The original demo was locked to 30 frames-per-second, but this new PC port can bump it up to 60fps. It also supports AMD FSR 3.1 or NVIDIA DLSS.
Everything we’ve heard about it sounds great so far, though there is a small caveat. When it does eventually go live, you won’t be able to play it outright. You’ll need your own digital copy of the game ripped from a PlayStation 4. Good luck finding one of those if you don’t have one already, as they sell for hundreds on the second-hand market.
If you were one of the ones to grab the demo before it was discontinued, this is definitely an upgrade worth considering if you’re tech-savvy.
Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills: Everything we know about the cancelled horror
As stated before the game would have been made in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro and star Norman Reedus.

While the demo was set entirely within a haunted house, the full game would have moved the player beyond it; probably out into a town filled with monsters like every other game in the series.
Given that it was a Hideo Kojima game, you’d expect the psychological horror to be dialled up to 11. Famously, the demo positioned the ghost lady behind the player’s back at all times, for a foreboding feeling that you were being watched as you wandered through the house.
Fortunately, Kojima will get another chance to scare our socks off next year with the release of OD, starring Hunter Schafer.
Silent Hills could have been a fantastic entry in the beloved Konami horror series, but let’s not forget there have been some fantastic games since. Silent Hill f was nothing short of a masterpiece and the newly released Silent Hill: Townfall is pretty good too.
In terms of memorability, though, gamers are never going to forget the iconic spooks and scares of P.T., so we’re glad to see it live on through the upcoming unofficial PC port.
