Jamie Carragher has responded directly to a fan on social media after he was accused of ‘bullying’ Mark Goldbridge on the first episode of Overlap Daily.
The Overlap media group, co-founded by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, acquired Mark Goldbridge’s YouTube channels, The United Stand and That’s Football, in April for a reported seven-figure deal.
On Friday (October 9), the first episode of the Overlap Daily, featuring Neville, Goldbridge and Jamie Carragher, premiered across all major streaming platforms, and the reactions on social media have been mixed.

Jamie Carragher hits back at fan who accused him of ‘bullying’ Mark Goldbridge
In the opening salvo from the show, Carragher highlighted Goldbridge’s real name – Brent Di Cesare – while claiming the YouTube star is really a Nottingham Forest supporter, not a Man United fan.
While that is the worst-kept secret in the football YouTube space, the Liverpool legend still brought it up on The Overlap, saying: “Are you going to be yourself on the show? I keep reading that you’re not going to be yourself; you’ve sold out.”
Goldbridge responded: “I was actually thinking on the way up, you know, your punditry career is a bit like your playing career, isn’t it?”
Shortly after, Carragher called him the “biggest fraud” for changing his name and supposedly the team he supports. “Yeah, but you are the biggest fraud though, aren’t you, when you think about it?” he continued, with Goldbridge responding, “Why’s this?”
“Your name’s Mark, but it’s really Brent, and you say you’re a Man United fan, but you’re really a Nottingham Forest fan,” Carragher said.
The banter between Goldbridge, Neville and Carragher was a constant throughout the episode, but not everyone saw it that way, as one person claimed on X that Carragher and Neville were ‘bullying’ Goldbridge.
“Gary Neville & Carragher were bullying, cutting Goldbridge in this whole interview,” they wrote. “Huge respect to @markgoldbridge for keeping his cool & calm while being given backhanded insults covered with laughter by these egomaniacs.
The former England international responded directly to that comment on X by claiming that Goldbridge had ‘battered’ him and Neville with criticism over the years, urging them not to take the comments too ‘seriously’.
Carragher replied: “Morning Kevin, Mark has battered me & Gary for years, which has been funny & no problem to either of us. We gave him a bit back yesterday; don’t take it too seriously.”
Jamie Carragher reignites Rio Ferdinand feud
The back-and-forth between Goldbridge and Carragher wasn’t the only talking point to emerge from the episode, as the ex-Liverpool captain aimed a dig at Rio Ferdinand.
Carragher and Ferdinand have a long-running feud, and when discussing Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent spat with Portugal boss Jorge Jesus, the 48-year-old namedropped his former England teammate for notoriously siding with Ronaldo.
“People think it’s good to be close to people in the game, but this is where it becomes a problem,” Carragher said.
“People like Piers Morgan and Rio Ferdinand, who are big people in the media whether you like them or not, are embarrassing themselves with the nonsense that they’re coming out with because they know Ronaldo.
“You can know someone and try to look after them, but you cannot defend the indefensible.”
Ronaldo has stolen the headlines for all the wrong reasons after leaving Portugal’s camp after a disagreement with Jesus over playing time, before later releasing a lengthy statement accusing the coach of breaking his trust.
The 41-year-old is facing up to a six-month ban for leaving camp without notice, and the Portuguese Football Federation has since suspended him while they decide his punishment.
