Xbox has accelerated plans for a new Fallout installment, previously confirming that Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new spin-off while Fallout 5 remains in development at Bethesda.
That’s all in addition to remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas which are both on the way too.
This is good to hear, but it doesn’t immediately rectify this current period of drought.
What will, however, is ‘Detour’ – a brand new DLC-sized mod expansion for Fallout 4 that introduces a new setting, quests, vendors, activities, and more.
‘Detour’ is the work of The Commonwealth Story Expansion Project, better known as CSEP, and has been uploaded to NexusMods by user Pig; it’s also available on console via Creations.
‘Detour’ feels like it could have been made by Bethesda, players say
The expansion, as the name suggests, takes you to the new town of Detour which you’ll find not too far from Bedford Station.
The town is built on an overpass and to kickstart the expansion’s questline, you’ll want to speak to a guard located at the bottom of an elevator by the town’s entrance.
Beyond that, the CSEP team is keeping the story of the mod under wraps.
What I can tell you is that within the mod, alongside everything else I’ve already mentioned, you’ll also get to enjoy a new player house and new apparel items, plus there are over a dozen new characters to encounter.
These characters have been fully voiced by human voice actors, so there’s no AI slop to be found here.
The CSEP team has put together over 600 lines of dialogue for the mod, so it should feel really immersive.

‘Detour’ also incorporates a built-in ‘reputation’ patch, originally the work of NexusMods user bp42s.
This works similarly to what you might have experienced in, say, Star Wars Outlaws.
Within ‘Detour’, players will be able to gain favour with certain groups and factions – or less favour with others.
Who you side with and who you upset will have “dynamic consequences”.

If you want to admire those who put this mod together, you can find a full list of developers and voice actors on the NexusMods listing for ‘Detour’.
Creators have also described ‘Detour’ as a hub, with new quests set to be added over time.
Already, players are flocking to the mod’s listing with positive reviews.
“It’s very impressive and [I’m] already enjoying the mod,” someone wrote.
Another declared, “Wow! It feels like it’s part of the game.”
“Works great, cool place, great all around. What’s not to love? Thanks for this,” and, “Wow! It’s amazing to see decent sized mods still coming. Well done and thanks,” read another two comments.
‘Detour’ is yours to download and enjoy now for free on all platforms. PlayStation and Xbox users will find it listed via Creations, while PC users will need to hop over to NexusMods.
