It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Life President Ken Friar OBE.
Since our formation in 1886, there have been many inspirational individuals who have driven our club forward, but no one has had an influence on Arsenal Football Club quite like ‘Mr Friar’… pic.twitter.com/5m80CEkp8J

Arsenal have announced the death of their life president Ken Friar at the age of 92, paying tribute to his “extraordinary” legacy following more than eight decades of association with the club.
Friar was one of the most influential figures in Arsenal’s history, having risen from a position in the club’s box office to become managing director and later life president.
He played a central role in Arsenal’s move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, helping oversee one of the biggest changes in the club’s history.
Arsenal paid tribute to Friar in a statement recognising his remarkable service and influence across generations.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Life President Ken Friar OBE,” the club said.
“Since our formation in 1886, there have been many inspirational individuals who have driven our club forward, but no one has had an influence on Arsenal Football Club quite like ‘Mr Friar’ and he leaves an extraordinary life of service to the club as his legacy.
“One that will surely never be matched. Rest in peace.”
Friar’s association with Arsenal stretched back more than 80 years, with his first official role coming in 1950 when he joined the club’s box office.
He went on to become club secretary in 1973 before being appointed managing director a decade later.
Arsenal confirm tributes for Champions League and Everton fixtures
Arsenal have confirmed that their players will wear black armbands during Tuesday night’s Champions League fixture against Lille at the Emirates Stadium.
Further commemorations are planned for Arsenal’s next home Premier League fixture against Everton on October 24.
The club said those arrangements have been agreed with Friar’s family, allowing supporters to pay their respects to a man whose influence extended across generations.
