Keane Lewis-Potter’s emphatic header put Brentford ahead at home to Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday – but the Bees then had Yehor Yarmolyuk dismissed during first-half added time.

After Lewis-Potter powered in Igor Thiago’s delivery, midfielder Yarmolyuk was adjudged to have headbutted Jeremy Jacquet following a Video Assistant Referee review.

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who had returned to the starting line-up following injury, was forced off with an issue before the goal, slapping the turf in frustration as the Hungary international sat on the turf.

Brentford vs Liverpool: ‘Chaos’ creates goal

Former Premier League striker Glenn Murray praised Brentford for breaking up play beyond the halfway line in the build-up to the goal and striker Thiago’s cross.

“All of a sudden, there’s a little bit more energy,” Murray told BBC Radio 5 Live. “That’s what Brentford like: that chaos.

“I always feel as though I want my number nine inside the 18-yard box… this time, he’s not. [Thiago’s] on the right-hand side.

“But what you quite often find with a striker, when they are pulling into those wide areas, is that they know the kind of balls they like.

“He puts it perfectly right on the onrushing Lewis-Potter’s head. As he strides onto it, he’s just got to redirect it on target.

“The pace is on the ball and he does just that, right into the top left-hand corner of Alisson’s goal. This place erupts once again.”
